Taken from the larder door at Wimpole Hall, this historic shade is typical of the drab colours used to paint the ‘back of house’ areas, where servants prepared meals and drinks for the owners of these grand country mansions. These soft browns and neutrals were popular because they did not show dirt or damage easily and were produced economically by mixing leftover paints and pigments from the main house.
This deep stone-colored paint was found in partnership with the National Trust.
