Little Greene Jewel Beetle Paint No. 303

Jewel Beetle is a deep green paint shade inspired by an 1880 portrait,

Ellen Terry, a renowned Shakespearean actress, was immortalized as Lady Macbeth in an 1889 portrait by John Singer Sargent. In this painting she is seen wearing a spectacular green dress, knitted to resemble chainmail. The dress is embroidered in gold and decorated with a thousand iridescent wings of the green beetle, which shed its naturally colored wings. The dress is preserved in the Ellen Terry Museum at Smallhythe Place, the half-timbered farmhouse in Kent that she fell in love with and bought in 1899.
