A typical historical damask, the source of the design was originally a 19th century woven silk, the effect of which is replicated in the detail of the print. As with the High Street design from London Wallpapers III, there are known examples of this pattern from more than one location, making it likely that it was produced in significant quantities from the 18th century until the end of the 19th century: this is commensurate with the production capabilities of the industry at this time.
